In the world of touring motorcycles, there are generally two categories to live by. There is standard touring, which comprises heavyweight cruising motorcycles, and sport touring, which are occasionally little more than rebadged sport bikes with adjustable windshields and hard saddlebags. BMW's notion of sport touring is slightly different, however.

The BMW R1200RT enters the show with all its touring goodies, out in the open, hiding nothing. Then, however, like a monster rearing another, more fearsome head, the BMW R1200RT surprises you with more performance than you might expect from a touring bike.
With lightweight components and every conceivable option available, the BMW R1200RT is the ultimate sport bike riders' touring bike. The handling is crisp and precise, laying deep into tight turns, and still affording plenty of comfort zone for passengers to feel safe and snugly tucked in. Powered by BMW's Air/oil cooled flat twin four stroke engine, known as a "Boxer" style engine, the 570lb. 2009 BMW R1200RT puts out a grin-inspiring 110 horsepower with 85 lb/ft on tap at 6,000 RPM. Topping out at over 125 miles per hour, the BMW R1200RT has more than enough power to keep you in trouble, while the twin disc brakes up front and single disc brake out back help (slightly) to keep you out of trouble.

As with all BMW's touring motorcycles this year, the BMW R1200RT features a load-bearing engine to help reduce weight, as well as a cast aluminum single-sided swingarm. Preload at the suspension is hydraulically adjustable, as is rebound; making the ride characteristics of the 2009 BMW R1200RT infinitely adjustable for ultimate comfort regardless of load, road, or any other rhyming word you can come up with.
